Bad news for northerners hoping to see British rocker Billy Idol play in Yellowknife this spring: news of a spring appearance north of 60 appears to have been a hoax. Gary Hubert, a promoter with Aurora Promotions in Yellowknife, said Tuesday that he tried to book Idol and his band during Idol’s Idolize Yourself tour last fall. However, a member of Idol’s management in California told CBC News that the musician has not planned any shows in 2009 to date.
It appears the bogus billing originated from Mojam, a concert-listings website.
As of Tuesday morning, Mojam had Idol listed as doing an all-ages show on March 8 at the Yellowknife Multiplex. However, the listing disappeared by afternoon. When the Idol listing was discovered Monday, it fooled more than just local media and music lovers in the N.W.T. capital. It even caught local rock band Priscilla’s Revenge by surprise, after it had posted a forum message on Idol’s official website Monday night saying it would be opening for Idol on March 8.
